Our secret

The key success of our solution is the fact that it heats the waste feedstock very fast to temperatures high enough to generate the targeted valuable products directly and limit the production of less valuable condensables and solid residues, but low enough to avoid over-cracking to less valuable hydrocarbons and salt-related melting issues.

The sweetspot

We operate our process in a cracking temperature “sweetspot”. This means that valuable chemicals are directly produced. At higher temperatures, these chemicals like ethylene would be broken down to eventually H2 and CO. This “syngas” could be converted to methanol and subsequently other chemicals, but it requires additional conversion steps and therefore comes at higher costs and suffers more thermodynamic losses.

On the other side, operation at much lower temperatures than what SYNOVA is doing, leads to high yields of heavy components. This is often referred to as “pyrolysis” and needs a subsequent upgrading and cracking step to get valuable chemicals, which comes with costs and carbon loss. SYNOVA operates at the temperature sweet spot where chemicals are produced in one step.
